How do you acquire a house lot?
The Central Housing & Planning Authority over the past ten years has allocated over 60,000 house lots.
The criteria for allocation of a house lot are:
- Applicant must not be a property owner,
- Applicant must attain the age of 21 yrs and is a resident of Guyana for at least six months.
- An applicant can either be single, married or in a common law relationship.

Applicants are required to do the following to apply for house lots:
Purchase an application form from the:
(a) Central Housing and Planning Authority
(b) The Regional Housing Offices
The cost for an application form is a nominal fee of $100 dollars.
Applications are to be completed and submitted to the Head Office or the Regional Housing Officers.
The Department will acknowledge receipt of this application by sending an ‘Acknowledgement Letter’ to the applicants.
If an applicant has not received an Acknowledgement Letter, the applicant should make contact with the Interviewing Section for a copy of this letter.
Interview for House Lots.
Once an application has been submitted, applicants will be invited to attend an interview to assess whether they would qualify for a low, very low or middle income house lot.
Applicants are required to produce these documents at the time of the interview:
- The acknowledgement letter
- The notice for the interview
- Children’s birth certificates
- job letters
- rent receipts
- marriage certificate, Deed Polls are also required, if applicable.
Applicants are required to attend the interview at the date specified in the invitation letter.
Failure to attend within one month of the date of interviews will result in the applicant having to wait for the next batch of interviews, where the applicant can provide substantial evidence to support their claim for not attending the interview, the applicant will be accommodated.
Allocation of House Lots:
Applicants who have satisfied the requirements will be issued with an Offer letter and will subsequently be invited to select a lot number by way of a lottery– a transparent system. Thereafter the allottee is then issued with an allocation letter by hand or through the postal system. This letter gives the details of the allocation.
Allottees are required to make the initial payment for the land that is, 1/3of the total cost, along with the fee for the processing of Titles / Transport within three months of the date of the allocation letter. The balance must be paid within12 months of the date of the said letter.
Failure to make the downpayment or to complete payment within the prescribed time frame, will result in the lot being repossessed and / or a review of the allocation.
This process takes a period of 3 months to one year depending on the availability of house lots in the schemes requested.
Applicants who did not qualify for a house lot will be sent a rejection letter.
Price for house lots:
- Very Low Income : $59,400
- Low Income : $92,000
- Middle Income lots : $300,000 to $1.2M
Agreement of Sale.
Alllottees are advised that after paying the initial downpayment they MUST enter into an Agreement of Sale subject to certain conditions, with the Central Housing and Planning Authority, acting on behalf of the Government of Guyana. Revenue stamps equivalent to the cost of the lot ($1 for every $1,000, are required for signing of the Agreement of Sale.
Processing Titles /Transports:

Allottees are required to sign legal documents to commence processing of their transports, after paying the initial downpayment and the processing fee for transport.
A title or transport is in process when the allottee signs the documents and the receipt of payment is stamped “Transport is in process.”
